Henslow's Sparrow
Henslow's Sparrow

In the late 90’s, this tiny migratory bird was in steep decline toward extinction. The US Conservation Reserve Program funded collaboration with farmers to return agricultural edges to grassland. These grasslands filter our water, sequester our carbon, and protect us from flooding. This Spring, the Henslow’s Sparrow’s return to Illinois was calculated at over 1000%. Happy New Year

American lawns are the largest single crop in the country, relying more heavily on chemical fertilizers and water than our entire agricultural industry. Replacing lawns with native grasses and plants can dramatically improve this resource loss while supporting the bugs, animals and humans we love.
